Ceann Iorrais or Erris Head is one of many spectacular coastal landscapes in Erris.
It is surrounded by a range of important coastal and marine habitats and contains
many special inhabitants on land and in the sea. The guided walk will take in many
of these wonderful features.
Environmental scientist Derek McLoughlin from Westport is studying the ecology
of twite, a small coastal-living bird. Derek’s study is focused mainly on the Mullet
Peninsula, which is the stronghold for twite and a brilliant place for bird-watching.
Local scientist Oliver Ó Cadhla has been doing research in the area since 1995
including work on Broadhaven Bay and the Inishkea islands.
